Hi,
I have a Win 98 PC to which I installed a NIC to run an Internet connection. It worked fine for months until it stopped with no apprent reason. ADSL modem and NIC were changed. Funny enough I still can't get it to work, my NIC shows all tests OK while in DOS mode. Under Win 98 the loopback test fails. I can ping the modem but I cannot reach it to configure. Any clues? I reinstalled TCP/IP, etc. to no avail...is a full Win98 reinstall the only way out???

To the best of my knowledge, the loopback test just pings 127.0.0.1 (your loopback IP) and verifies the response. Try going to a command prompt and pinging 127.0.0.1 and see if you get a reply. Then try pinging your modem. If you cannot, try swapping your network cable and see if that remedies the situation. Nate Gagne
