I'm currently deploying new PC's to a company and find that most people have no idea *where* they get their files from.

Case in point: I've had a number of users indicate to me that I *forgot* to migrate their documents/spreadsheets from their old PC's just to find out that the files were not stored locally but rather to a network resource.

Another case: Users forget the exact filename and send in requests to retrieve a file given an *estimated* filename: "It had a 'n' in it; something 'supply form'...it was a doc file'. Once again the file is typically stored on a network resource.

The issue is that users constantly uses the File|Recently openned options in Word/Excel/Access/etc (which is fine) and *forget* where the file actually resides and at times, the actual filename ("I don't know the file name but it was the second entry in my 'recently used files' list".

As I have local admin rights on all the PC's and since these settings are profile specific, I am looking for a way to view the recently used file list of other users.

Where does MS Office apps store the "Recently used" list so I can tell the users where on the *network* the files are located? I assumed it was in the profiles area but haven't found it. Maybe in a user-specific reg or ini file?

PS: I know about "Documents and Settings\<user>\My Recent Documents" however, in the case were a lot of files from different apps are opened, this list is not complete and will not have all the files that I am looking for.

TIA

C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\Office\Recent

To resolve this in future, the users should change the default path under Tools, Options, File Locations. Then you can deploy Word and ensure that the location is correctly set.
