Looking for users/groups on local machine before domain

This is an annoying problem I've been having for a couple months since I switched to a new computer. When I am in AD Users & Computers, or computer management, & I add a user, the computer always looks in the local machine for the accounts before the domain. I have to change the location from %machine name% to entire directory to find the account I want to add.

This is more of an annoyance than anything, but I know it is not normal behavior, so there must be some underlying problem.

Any Ideas?
