Hey everyone, here's the story. I'm looking for the hardware for a new backup solution. We currently are using an Exabyte EZ17 Autoloader with a Mammoth-2 tape drive. The media is expensive and not very reliable over the longer term. It is also too slow. It also will not accomidate our future backup needs.

What we need:
I need to backup 2 TB of data nightly. (This includes future increases)
Current solution is to backup full on weekend, incremental daily. That can continue.
Speed is very important. Data is continuously accessed 24 hours a day during the week by employees.
The solution must be reliable, media must also be reliable.
It must be easy to use and low maintenance.
Must be compatible with Veritas Backup Exec on Win2k.
Cost - I need to keep cost down as much as possible. Media cost is also very important.
Rackmountable would be nice.

I am open to any suggestions to what is out there currently, it does not have to use tapes if that is not the best solution.

Thanks!

I would suggest using a StorageTek L40 or L80 with 2 - 4 LTO tape drives.

I would recommend a company trisys that a friend of mine has had dealings with before, they are very good technically and have supported him since. they have a range of products and the bit that he always goes on about is their ability to fully suport everything! its worth a look. good luck with searching for a solution.

your best bet is to discuss with a solution provider! instead of having storage thrown at you its just a box you'll end up having to ask more questions..i would contact they will be able to deal with your problem and discuss future requirements. you'll be secure in the knowledge that you made the right choice. colonel09 is quite right. they are also other solution providers out there. good luck.
