I recently inherited 2 XEON processors with no docs or history. I have looked till frustration set in, and can not find enough information to insure compatibility with a motherboard.

The two items of concern are the core voltage of 1.75V and the L2 cache of 256MB. Most other XEON's are 1.45V and 512MB cache or higher.

This CPU is referenced at Intel but is in their archive and not currently supported.

Does anyone have any experience with this CPU?

Details:

Processor markings 1700DP/256L2/400/1.7V

Processor speed (GHz) 1.70
Bus speed (MHz) 400
L2 cache size (KB) 256

Don't have any specs available here I'm afraid, but I'm sure my colleague has used XEONs in the past, on various TYAN motherboards.

Don't know if that's any help...

Forgot to mention that yours appear to be the INT-mPGA 603.

Thank You all for the links.

I had searched modt of these, and the main problem seems to be a combination of the 1.75V core and the 256MB cache. I do not expect to have you reasearch any of these for me.

I was hoping for someone that might have used or had experience with these cpu's. Most mobo's cited support 1.5V & lower and cache sizes of 512MB and higher.

I do not or can not confirm backward compatibility. Have tried email to INTEL and other mobo mfg's with no response.

Todate I have found only one mobo from TYAN #S2603 that would support this cpu and just know that there must be others if I can determine what they are. Intel must have produced a mobo for this cpu??

BadBigBen:

This is what I have been running into with no reference to backward (256K cache) compatibility.

As stated I don't expect anyone to do my research but thank you for your effort.

It says, UP TO, that in my book means INCLUDING the 256k L2 Cache... NO?

and no, I just happened to come across that board looking for some other mobo...

SuperMicro has finally responded to my query:

According to them only mobo's with the 7501/7505 chipset are backward compatible.

This information might be only for their line but opens several options for this cpu stepping.

Thanks to all
