Can anyone recommend a 911 solution for a Definity system in a campus type environment?

I have a Definity system with 15 EPNs. Each EPN is at a different building, each building is at least a few blocks from each other. With the current configuration if a 911 call was placed, emergency personal would show up at the wrong address.

I know there is a way to log into the public network and update their E911 database with the location of each of our DIDs, however people at my company people move from one building to another so often that this wouldn't be easy. I can't use extension ranges either because there isn't an extension range assigned to any one building.

I've thought about using partitioned groups so each location would access a different ARS for 911, but we have more buildings than we partitioned route tables.

I have CO cards and POTS lines at each location, is there a way to use this equipment?

There are some semi-complex fixes with newer releases and multi-site software but the easiest/quickest/cheapest solution is to create a new CO trunk group. Route all 911 traffic (and only 911 traffic) to this trunk group. Install at least 1 trunk to this group in each EPN. When a call is placed from a cabinet, and the route pattern specifies a trunk group, and the trunk group contains members located in multiple cabinets/EPN's, the call will go out on the member located within it's own cabinet as it's first choice. If you only have 911 traffic pointed to this trunk group, every cabinet should always have an available member for the call to go out and provide the correct address via the LEC.

I've used this for 3 years after having an amubulance show up at the wrong site. ARGH!

Chris,

Thanks for sharing with me how to setup the 911 trunk group. This is exactly what I was looking for. I tried it today and it works great! It was so easy to setup, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it....
