W2k Server as a gateway to the router, IP is 192.168.0.1 and DNS settings provided by the ISP. The router is doing the Network Address Translation.

On a W98 client, if I assign the IP I get Internet and no LAN computers. If I set the client IP to Automatic, I get LAN computers, but no Internet.

I have not configured DHCP on the server.

XP clients work like a charm, but uses a wizard to set it up.
Any ideas?

Racherry,

The Tcp/Ip settings for the workstations should point the DNS settings to the Internal DNS server. Your Internal DNS server should have Forwarders enabled to allow for Internet name resolution. (Enter the IP address of your ISP's DNS server as a forwarder).

This way, when your workstations request name resolution that cannot be handled by the Internal DNS server, i.e., Internet sites, the forwarders will kick in and provide the name resolution.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Patty,

I do not have DNS running on the W2K server, the network is operating as a Workgroup. This is the way the server was setup when I got into the picture.

Are you suggesting that I start up DNS services using the internal IP scheme and enable Forwarders using the ISP's DNS settings? The workstations would use the local W2K server DNS settings and any IP settings within the internal scheme.

Is there a way to solve the problem without setting up DNS services?

Thanks Randy
