Hi,

I have a simple domain -- W2000 Advanced Server with 13 XP Pro boxes attached. All the users in this domain are organized as OU's and I use roaming profiles so anyone can logon anywhere. I have one logon script that is applied to the highest level in the OU structure.

When anyone logs on, this script should run. The only thing this script does right now is map 6 shares to the network (no fancy stuff). The problem is that the script does not run all the time when the user logs on. There does not seem to be any pattern to the logon script failure. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Peter

Do you know for sure that they aren't running or are people closing the dos box before it has a chance to execute.

They don't seem to be running. I put a message box at the end of the script that says "Welcome to the network" and this never pops up when the logon script fails.

Do you have only one DC on your system--ie if there is more than one DC to log on to and only one has the script-they only get the script from that one.

Do they have network access after they logon? If so run the logon batch file manually as a test \\servername\netlogon\logon.bat and see what happens.

Thanks for all the help so quickly. To answer the questions:

There is only one DC.

There is network access via the My Network Places folder in Windows Explorer after logging on and having the script fail to map the shared drives. When I find the script and double click on it at this point, it runs fine.

OK, try adding the logon script to the user account in AD Users and Computers. If that works you can narrow it down to your GPO and see what's going on there.

Ahhh...good idea. I have to run right now, but I will try that first thing tomorrow to get back to you.

Thanks again,
Peter
