Hi All

I've been given the task of writing a logon script for our vista SP1 clients. Initially I thought that power shell was the way to go, but now I'm not too sure. For a start, it would have to be installed on all machines (not installed at the moment) but also, I found out that double clicking a .ps1 file doesn't run it, but opens it for editing.

I'm also concerned about users tinkering around with powershell as it has quiet alot of functionality (OK, they need permissions to do anything seriously harmful, but even so) and there's no way of locking powershell down (eg to just run the logon script) as far as I know.

I'm just wondering what other languages everybody is using for their vista logon scripts. VBS perhaps ?

The script will only need to do basic functions such as mapping printers based on location (from AD sites and services), map network drives etc

Any suggestions at all ?

Thanks in advance

I'm just using batch files & vbs. If your scripts are running from the Netlogon share or from a GPO, the users won't be able to mess with them anyway, so the only concern should be functionality. There are a couple of very useful scripts in the FAQ's of forum955.

Oops, I guess the vbs scripts that I was thinking of are actually in the FAQ's of forum329.

Thanks for the reply smah. I'm beginning to think we'll just go with VBS. My issue with powershell isn't the users changing the existing logon script, it's users opening up powershell and thinkinering around in there. And then subsequently trying to download/run cmdlets etc. If they don't have it, they can't do anything with it !!

Thanks for the links though
