Logon....Log-off....Logon

Laptop running Win 2k SP4 has been hanging each time I try to logon. The only way I can resolve this is to interupt the logon with Ctrl+Alt+Del and log off. If I then logon again immediately it works fine.

Can anyone explain this?

If I try to logon it hangs, but if I logoff while it's hanging and log back on, it works!!!

Any ideas from anyone?

have you tried making a new account and copying your files into it. might be your profile is corrupting

I had this exact problem. It didn't appear to be a profile. I had viruses and spyware that multiple scans from multiple products didn't pick up. At the advise of Microsoft, I went to:

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

I am still working on some other problems, but this online scan (no software to install) seemed to solve alot of problems. Please let me know if this works for you.
