Logins & Passwords

Greetings. I am a hospital IT director and recently recovered a pc that has Mandrake 6.0. I need to be able to login to this machine, and the individual who used this machine is not available to do that. Is there another method that will allow me to log in to this machine.

Depending on how yu have this machine set-up you will have to..

If this is a non-root account/

Login a root
On the command line do

% su username
% passwd

If this is a root account/

You will need to go into Emergency Mode by using your boot disk and change the root password from there.

% passwd

Also, once you have found out what the root password is -- write it down, put it in an envelope, and file it in your "what to do if I get hit by a bus" folder.
