login to your server via ftp

Hello all,

I'm not sure this question of mine is fit for this forum but I found no other forum that much better resembles my question, so here it is...

I'm following an instruction to set up a SSH for my laptop to work with those unsecured internet network at public locations like library or so. Step by step I follow ok until it said "login to your server via ftp", I'm stuck!!!

Could someone help me, in detail, how to do as such.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to encrypt your traffic going out from this library, or are you trying to connect to a server remotely in a secure manner?
