When I connect from a client computer to our Metaframe XP server and get a login prompt, if I let the computer sit idle for a while the Citrix client will automatically disconnect from the server. I would like to extend this idle timeout or possibly turn it off.

My question is, is there a way to change this idle timeout for each client, or is this a setting on the Metaframe server itself.

Thanks in advance for any help.

You can configure timeouts in the "Citrix Connection Configuration" open the tool from your start menu on the server and select the ica-tcp properties (rsa-tcp if you are using those, if your not using RSA this is also where you would remove the protocol) there are a host of settings, the three your most concerned with are within the advanced tab and relate to Connection settings, disconnect resets and idle timeouts.

The connection settings set how long a client is connected before being thrown off (One I would set to no timeout :) )

Disconnect timeout sets how long a session that has been disconnected remains until it is reset (IE if a user gets disconnected via a modem connection they can log back in within a certain timeframe and continue where they left off)

Lastly the idle timeout (Which is what your interested in) dictates how long a session remains whilst not in use before it is reset.

All settings are in minutes.

Hope this helps.

Logon Connection Times Out!

I have a Windows 98 workstation with the ICA client loaded on it. I put my configured ICA connection icon into the startup group so I can have my Win98 workstation connect to the Citrix Server as soon as it boots up. The 98 Workstation boots up and launched the ICA session normally but if I don't put in my user credentials within 2 or 3 mins the connection times out and throws me back to my WIN98 OS. Now my user must launch it manually and enter his user ID and password. Is there a way I can make the connection stay on the logon screen for the session, even if the user doesn't logon before the session times out. I don't want the session to log in the user automatically because that would a security risk, i'm not willing to take.

Candidog,

Ahhh gotya, sorry for my missinterpretation....

There absolutely HAS to be a reghack for that... I'll look into it.

After thinking through, I know you have two RDP and two ICA listeners for incoming connection to a terminal server. So if you make connection you are using one listener. Then after two minutes it will time out. The server then will free up the listener. So if there was a hack or policy, how would it handle addition connections at the same time. Just an educated guess. What do you think?
