i have a netware 5.1 server which has 6 dos clients(disk less nodes) . i installed a new server (netware 5.1 ). i did`nt done dosgen again for the clients just i copied the *.sysy files to my new server`s login directory from old server`s login directory . i got every thing ( diskless booting) except a small error i.e its saying batch file is missing , then i have to manually enter login
then every goes nice ...
plz tell me the solution to resolve this error without regenerating the dosgen

What batch file is it trying to run and is that on your new server? If you can diagnose this, you're half-way there.

just its saying the batch file is missing thats it

plz help me ...

You should be returned to some sort of DOS prompt I would guess. See what drives are mapped as one of them should be pointing to the Boot Image. You may be able to view the contents of AUTOEXEC.BAT to see what that runs and what other batch file it is calling.

Holy Cow, if you're using DOSGEN, you're using a VERY VERY VERY old dos client. Isn't that the client that was used for NetWare 3.11 and earlier?

Is there a reason you couldn't at least use the VLM Dos clients? They are much easier to troubleshoot and don't require you to use DOSGEN.

I realize this will require you to reconfigure the bootable image, but that's not really too hard.

anyhow, I would guess that you didn't copy all the necessary files either, kinda like what the other guy said. If it's looking for a batch file, search your old server for *.BAT files in the LOGIN directory, and copy them to the new server.

Haven't used diskless boot for a while, but hope that helps.

I have been doing Novell for five years and never even heard of DOSGEN! It must be really old.

Go ahead and add DOSGEN to your "Don't know, don't care" list.

I've only seen it used in one production environment and I quickly got rid of it and updated to the vlm clients. That was probably 8 years ago.
