Hello

I am having HP9000 series server. Upto last two days I was able to do all activities in this server. But since two days I am not able to login in to the server. It validates the password and displays all copyright information without any problem. But it does not give me # or $ prompt. It happens with all users including root. (Cant able to login on console also).

But this server is running fine with all applications (SAP, ORACLE etc). I am able to issue all commands using rsh from other servers login.

What could be the reason?

Thanks in advance

Sharad

Ok. First thing is to get to a root shell on the box I think.

Can you rsh an xterm window maybe? Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

Hello

After doing some investigation, I found that the /bin/mail
file is corrupted. And whenever this file is accessed,
the window hangs. I commented the line which access mail
command from /etc/profile. After that I am able to get # prompt.

Thanks for the reply.
