I am running XP Pro with a series of partitions on an 80 gig drive and have had something interesting happen, for want of a better word.
When I first did this build some time ago the result was as follows in explorer:

c: logical drive (Primary)NTFS
d: logical drive Fat32
e: logical drive Fat32
f: logical drive Fat 32
g: DVD R/W

Recently I have done a fresh build. The result is this:

c: logical drive (Primary)NTFS
d: DVD R/W
e: logical drive NTFS
f: logical drive NTFS
g: logical drive NTFS

I do not understand in an identical build why Win XP has decided to re-assign the DVD writer to d: unless it has something to do with NTFS and Fat32?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sometimes this happens, but its pretty easy to fix. Just click on start and programs and open up the administrative tools and go into Computer Management. Under Storage click on Disk Management. Then select the disks you want to change the drive letters for and right click and select change drive letters and path. Then change them to whatever you need.

Many thanks for your replies. Just for Mainegeek's curiousity, no the DVD drive was configured on an 80 pin cable and the cable select jumper.
I will try out the advised method and am grateful for both your replies
Thanks
Steve
