I upgraded an NT4.0 server to w2k with DCPromo. Initially i ran into the problem i read about which is SAM corruption. This however is not the same problem as i ran through those steps again. here is the situation:

98 and w2k pro station not authenticating.....

I've created a new user with new password and still can't.
I CAN log in from the 2000 server locally
I removed novell clients and then reinstalled the MS client
I CAN ping the server and it can ping me

does anyone have any suggestions? Good thing is it's my test lab but i fear the problem will happen when i roll it out.

thanks!!

did you say that you upgraded from 4.0 to win2000 with the dcpromo command or did you mean to say that you upgraded to win2000 then ran dcpromo

i initially upgraded to windows with dcpromo when the sam got corrupted.

From my experience you should upgrade from nt4.0 to W2k first then run dcpromo.
Let me know if this helps.
