Log mailbox access

I have a need to Log who is accessing who's mailbox, both successful and failed attempts. Searching MS articles has led me to believe you can turn on logging into the event log. What I then would need to do is parse this information into a SQL server for reporting. Does anyone have experience of this type of problem or know of any third party tools that would get me what I want.
