i just formatted and reinstalled 98se on my computer, reinstalled all the drivers, software etc...and now when i shut my computer down, windows goes to dos and says "locating free pci resources for creative sound card..." then after a few seconds on the next line it says "press a key..." and i hit a key and my computer turns off. I have a creative labs sb live and it works fine in windows...didn't have any problems installing it or the drivers. I'm baffled.

that's a funny problem, sounds like you've got something in the autoexec.bat or windows startup. try to uninstall the driver and see if it stops. if it does download a new driver from the web andreas owen

Nope, it will be something in dosstart.bat
Just rem out any lines you find in there (or delete them), but save the file (even a 0 byte file).
It's for DOS compatibility mode (aka running games in DOS). Cheers,
Jim

this is what i have in my dosstart.bat:

D:\PROGRA~1\CREATIVE\SBLIVE\DOSDRV\SBEINIT.COM

LH C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~1\MOUSE\MOUSE.EXE

if i delete the 1st line, which points to my sblive dosdriver obviously, will my soundcard still work in dos?

I don't know why it would be accessing the dosstart.bat if you choose Shutdown from the menu. If you choose Shutdown>Restart in MS-DOS mode, then it will read the dosstart.bat file. But again, it's Windoze.

If you want to use the sound card in DOS, you'll need to choose a custom install for the Creative Sound card and choose those drivers as well.

Also, the path may be wrong if you didn't re-install to the D: drive.

no i did install it to the D drive....i completely reformated adn repartitioned so everything u see if off a fresh install. i guess i could always try removing my sound card from windows and then reinstalling...

I'd still try Jim's suggestion.

Or look for files named autoexec* and config* in the root drive in addition to the autoexec.bat and config.sys. They may be named autoexec.tsh or autoexec.wos or autoexec.nai. Move those files to a different directory and try a restart.
