Windows 95, Toshiba DVD II CDROM, Toshiba states no special drivers required. Why isn't Win95 finding this hardware? Platter spins so I know it's hooked up as far as cabling is concerned. Loaded the Toshiba generic CDROM drivers thru the atapi.exe but still cannot get Win95 to recognize this h/w. Also I am running C: and D: as hard drives with E: reserved for CD ROM.

If you don't mind trashing your hdd I would suggest using the Toshiba restore cd...

I think there's a lot of steps to take before using a restore CD.

Check the jumpers first and be sure that you have the drive as the Master and that it's in the master position of the cable. I can't quite tell but it looks from your post that this is the only CD drive your have. Is it? Does it show up as an unknown device in Device Manager, or does it not show up at all? Also, what happens when you run the Add New Hardware program? Justin

Did it work before? What make of Toshiba?

This is what I would try first. Go in to safe mode and see if you have multiple CD
ROMS installed. This you will only see if your in safe mode. If so unistall them all
and then let the system pick them up again.
