localhost redirect problem

Hi

Im having trouble with my local webserver, Im using Windows XP and have been using my web server regularly for about 8 months. But all of a sudden my localhost has stopped working. For example when I try to go to a site eg.

http://localhost/thesite

it redirects off to another another site called

http://www.commonname.com

and tries to search that site. I have never used the is commonname.com site.

I just dont understand why it doesnt load my pages locally. I have tried restating ISS 5 and even uninstalling it and then reinsatlling it. I havent made any changes to my machine. I just dont understand where this

http://www.commonname.com

has come from!!!

Any ideas????
