Hello,

I have an NT 4.0 workstation running in a Novell network environment, no MS domains, pdc, bdc, etc.
The users are created as normal user, not power user, backup, or admin.
On login, everyone except the administrator(s) is getting an invalid username/password challenge box for log in to C$ and Admin$. These are local users, not remote access.
I have remote access to this machine with no problem.
The security settings are identical with another machine of the same configuration (which has no problem). I'm at SP6a, NAV 7.0 corporate, and a couple of IP based apps, which all work after the 2 challenge boxes are cancelled.
Re-imaging this system is not an option. Does anyone have an idea what is happening here and/or how I can stop the challenges?

thanks!

Are you launching these applications from a shortcut. If not, this message will be way off. It may be a shortcut is messed up. The Q150215 article explains (in 1/2 a sentence) that you can open a shortcut in Notepad and see some information other than what shows in the shortcut properties. For example the shortcut does know the computer name it was created on. I have had shortcuts get confused when copying them from one computer to another. The shortcut seems to try and reach the origional computer. Also, don't forget the .lnk extension when pointing notepad to the shortcut.
