local restrictions on javascript

I have a number of scripts that do not run locally but run fine when I upload them. What are the most common restrictions that exist for running javascript locally?

can you provide some more details on why they don't work, do you get errors ? is there a URL we can look at ?

Help in this area from someone in another forum:

To turn off the "feature" in IE that prevents scripts from running on local files:

1) tools
2) internet options
3) advanced tab
4) scroll to security section
5) check the "Allow active content to run in files on my computer" box.
