I use a laptop to connect to a domain via VPN and cable modem. I need to be able to install software. I'm able to get admin rights by deleting the SAM (FAT32) and logging in as Administrator. I set up a username and password exactly like the domain. I can log on to the local machine. When I try to log in to the domain I get "Local policy does not allow you to log on interactively".
Fine. I go to local policies and check that User, Administrator, Power User, etc. are listed under Logon Locally. They are. I add Everyone to the list. The Deny Local Logon setting is blank.
I can now get to the domain but when explorer loads I get the error "Can't open folder. Path is too long." The desktop fails to load properly and Startup applications don't start. Also, Explorer won't display the contents of any folders.
I think this might be a local policy conflict with the domain somehow? Anybody got any insight on this?
Thanks.
