Loaded XP on one PC and when I set up the HDD on the other it wouldn't reboot. At start up it said "sec slave drive Atapi incompatible" I know I have it set to master!! Tried rebooting with a win98 bootup disk which it accepted. Now it reads master!! Rebooted again, after removing 98 bootup disk, and after some flickers I got a blue screen relling me " a mistake has been found windows is closing..........control for virus.......run chkdsk. What would be the easiest way to run chkdsk?
I rebooted again and I got a window were I could choose to start normal or in safe mode, started in safe mode and got the same blue screen as above.
Please help-.........Denis

So you installed XP on one machine then moved the hard drive to a diffrent machine? If thats what you did thats probably why it doesn't work due to diffrent chipset etc.

I would boot from your XP disk and install it from scratch in the machine you are going to use.

Make the best use of what is in your power, and take the rest as it happens.

Jump1ng is right...this happens a lot when you use NTFS file allocation...Not entirely sure how it works, but it supposedly bases its setup on your hardware, primarily your chipset...either way, Jump said, you'll need to reinstall windows.....sorry bro.

Good luck,
Kevin

AAAHhh!! Which came first the chicken or the egg??

I have now tried to boot with the six XP boot disks I have also tried booting from the XP cd but no luck still getting the blue screen telling me all sorts of things!!

Set the computer to boot from CD first. Put XP CD in and turn on system. It should default to the CD. Do a complete re-install. If you are still getting the errors, look to a memory stick problem.

I have changed the bios several times to boot from cd and to boot from floppy. I actually got a win98 bootup disk to work. I was also in on Shuttle.com to see if there were any hints there but when you seek ttech help you have to fill out a form with so much data that I give up!!
But I tell you what I'll try again, your suggestion, could be the force will be with me now that I'm sharing my deepest thoughts with others.
