Hello guys!

I could need some input on a installation issue here.
I am about to set up a metaframe farm with load balancing on windows 2003 servers.

What I wonder about is the following:
If I want to use the web-interface feature for reaching my citrix farm. Where do the xml-service authenticate? I know I have to install this on a webserver with iis (like a gateway) ... but is there any logic that this web-service authenticate against just one server or all servers in the farm? What if one of the servers in the farm goes down?

I don´t know if this is a well-defined question, but I hope some of you know what I mean.

Hi,

You can add your citrix servers for authenticing users within web interface.

Technically you only need one but I'd put multiple in just in case one goes down!

It's easy to find within the Web Interface Admin Page, click "Metaframe servers" on the left side of the page and then enter your servers.
Does this help?

Hi Ogi!

To reformulate myself. I can use load balancing, even if I use the webinterface right?

You say I can add metaframe servers from the web interface admin page. What is the url for that admin page?
My ordinary logon page for the web interface is:

My question is if adding servers (lets say two or three) to the webinterface will allow the use of load balancing (as when connect throught the program neighbourhood). Will the first server in the list always get all the logons? And if so ... is it that server that use the load balancing logic to see which servers has the most free resources?

:-)

Ok, so lets say two servers are running metaframe xpa lisences ... and the farm itself is configured to use load balancing (some predefined setup) ... when I add both servers to the web-interface (throught the admin page) ... then it use the farms load balancing settings (originally configured right?)

Maybee this sounds like stupid questions, but it is just to clear things out for my own sake.

Hi,

No it will use your CMC published application and load balance from there using your load evaluator rules.

Web Interface load balancing for XML authentication, as it reads :-

"Use this page to specify the names of one or more MetaFrame servers running the Citrix XML Service. The Citrix XML Service is a MetaFrame Presentation Server component that acts as the contact point between the server farm and the server running the Web Interface. "

Hope this helps,
Carl.

Hi tuliphead,

I use only web interface with two Windows server 2003, and the load balancing works perfectly.

Nothing more to configure using the web interface than using the full client...

I just had to confgure the load balancing in my MMC, like everyone (web interface or not).
