Can someone please tell me how to print a hi-res illustrator file through quark. I am using quarkxpress 4 and Illustrator 10. Problem being whenevr i print a quark document the illustratot files print at the screen resolution not at hi-res (vector graphic). Please help....going crazy!!!

Which printer is it?

Does the printer have a RIP or is Postscript enabled?

You need one of the above to get the correct results, sorry. If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.

Alternatively - I guess you are using an inkjet - save teh document (page by page I'm afraid) as an eps - and then open the eps in Illustrator and print from there (placing the images in Illustrator rather than leaving them in the quark document). You won't be able to do much with the fonts once the file is opened in Illustrator as it tends to split lines of text into small elements, but if all is checked in Quark for accuracy you won't have to worry about going back to quark effecting corrections and re-saving it to eps.

Printing illustrator images from illustrator to an inkjet works for me... I have just completed a document and done just that, with excellent colour, definition and gradients. All on an Epson 740.

Also, but I haven't tried this - if you have a means of saving the document as a pdf then this workaround may print good vestor images. As I say I haven't tried this but have seen a recommendation in answer to another user's identical problem.

let me/us know how you get on.

Tony

Since, you are specifying that the print out is coming at screen resolution, you must be having a non-postscript printer or a non-postscript printer driver. This is a major reason for getting High or Low resolution.
First of all, if it is not necessary to print from Quark then it is good becoz Illustrator has a software RIP built into the application which can print at HIGH RESOLUTION even to a non-postscript printer.
But if you have to take it through QuarkXPress, then try to get the images in TIFF becoz it will give good quality in the worst case also ie through non-postscript printers.
Note: QuarkXPress relies on printer driver and printer to process graphics. Since non-ps devices cannot understand the information in a postscript file, the output is a low resolution.
Illustrator processes graphics before they are printed, so it does good even in case of non-postscript printers

Also make sure that
while printing from Quark in the Print dialog box in the options tab, the picture option is not set to LOW RESOLUTION. change it to NORMAL.
