Hi All,

I had a search for this but couldn't find anything and not really 100% sure whether this is the best place for the question or not.
Anyhow
I am setting up a laptop.
When it is logging onto the LAN (locally), it has no problems getting the correct ip addresses for the servers
When logging on via VPN/Dialup, I need the laptop to use some externally registered IP addresses for specific servers.

What I have done is setup these registered addresses in the lmhosts file.
I can then log onto the LAN and it gets the internal ip address - GREAT!
I can then log onto the machine without the LAN and dialup - the machine then uses the registered address - GREAT!
However as soon as I open Outlook - regardless of being on the LAN or VPN - the lmhosts file kicks in.
This isn't a problem when dialed up on the VPN cause the correct registered address (as dictated in the lmhosts file) is used. BUT when on the LAN this causes problems simply beacause the internal IP address needs to be used.

So sorry for the lengthly book - but does anyone have any words of wisdom which might be able to assist here

Thanks in advance
Troy
