LM 7.1 sound

I have an on board ISA PnP sound system (CMI8330)which is supposed to be supported. Drakconf detects it.It is capable of being SB16 and WSS configuarable. Neither configuration seems to make it work. These configurations work in Win98SE which is on the same box. Any idea what the problem is?
