Hi,

I need to show some students the features of XP, but I was just told that the lab we are assigned to doesn't have XP.

I have tried the Ubuntu desktop Live Cd, and I am wondering, is it possible to do the same with XP?

Have a read of Bart's PE.

What is BartPE and PE Builder?

Bart's PE Builder helps you build a "BartPE" (Bart Preinstalled Environment) bootable Windows CD-Rom or DVD from the original Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 installation/setup CD, very suitable for PC maintenance tasks.

It will give you a complete Win32 environment with network support, a graphical user interface (800x600) and FAT/NTFS/CDFS filesystem support. Very handy for burn-in testing systems with no OS, rescuing files to a network share, virus scan and so on.
This will replace any Dos bootdisk in no time!

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

I have used Bart with Windows troubleshooting, but it appears to me like a pared down version of XP.

Its as close as you are going to get, to booting Windows of a CD. However there ways to boot it off a sufficiently large USB drive.

Search for "Boot Windows XP on USB drive" here in the forums and Google, and I'm sure you'll find something.

Also depending on what OS they have installed in the computer lab, you might be able to install Virtual PC on one of them, and then load WinXP into the Virtual PC.

Have you got a bit of hard drive Space where you could parallel install XP but not Activate it. That will give you 30 days as a trial.

"To install Windows XP to a new folder (to perform a parallel installation):"

How to install or upgrade to Windows XP

Another option might be using a Virtual Machine?
