Hello all

Hello all..

I installed 9i on Sun 5.8 on a different ORACLE_HOME directory with different Oracle user name.

I also have Oracle 8i on a different ORACLE_HOME directory.

Now during 9i Instalation, when i ran the root.sh script, it asked me whether i can over write /var/ot/oracle directory like 'oratab'. I said yes.

now when i start the listener for 9i, do i need to start the listener for 8i also ?...if so how do i do it for 8i?

when i issue
SQL> lsnrctl start

'i get a message unable to open file lsnrctl.sql.'

So my question is Do we need to start 2 listeners for 2 ORACLE_HOME's.? If so how to start the one for Oracle 8i databases ?

Please help.

any help is appreciated.

Kevin

Hi,
No. 1 listener can be configured for multiple instances.

You do not use lsnrctl from within SqlPLus - it is a command line executable...

See the docs to learn how to manage multiple instances...
