Hi all - stupid question time.

How do I make a cell in Excel into a list box, where the user can select from a drop down list which is based on a range elsewhere in the spreadsheet?

I know I've dome this before but can't remember how!

Any help as ever greatly appreciated.

Are you talking about auto-filter?

No, not an auto filter. For example, page 1 contains a list of names,

Fred
Jon
Barry
Sid

On page 2 I want cell A1 to be a drop-down list, where the user can select any of the names in the range above.

Hope this makes sense

Gotcha. Hit F1 in Excel and search for: "Enter data in a cell from a list you specify"

Gives you step-by-step.

Name the list, and in Page 2 cell A1 do Data/Validation/List and type the defined name as the source.

Cheers, Glenn.

Hi,

On SHEET 1, Make a Named Range (Not just a heading, but a Named Range. I use Insert > Name > Create... - Create names in top row)
[tt]
NameList
Fred
Jon
Barry
Sid
[/tt]
On SHEET2
Select ALL the cells that you want a DropDown to appear in.

Data > Validation - LIST and enter your LIST Range Name...
[tt]
=NameList
[/tt]
VOLA!

Thanks guys! Have some stars - not for the difficulty of the question, but for answering so quickly and saving me a lot of time.
