Linksys Router 2

Is a Linksys router a good enough firewall that I would not need ZoneAlarm or the windows firewall enables? My Linksys is model BEFW11S4, 2.4 ghz 4 port. Last night I could not reestablish internet or email after 'updating' my ZoneAlarm free version. I uninstalled ZoneAlarm and this morning I'm back online. My charter cable tech told me this router acts as a hardware firewall and I'm just looking for confirmation. TIA for any thoughts!!! katy

You'll probably be okay but if you use the purchased version it does more. Like stop spyware and hide some of you're personal information.

Personally I use it as well as the hardware firewall.

I'd definitely use both - despite having a firewall on my DLink router I use ZA. Think of your router security as your inbound protection, and ZA / similar as the outbound - with ZA installed and running you'll be alerted to suspicious activity on your machine.

Thank you both for your very helpful replys. Ogi, you mentioned you use the purchased version for spyware and handling personal information? I probably would purchase ZA for the spyware detection but I have to wait until my purchased version of Spysweeper is expired.
As for personal information, what type of personal info do you trust this program to handle and if you feel confident doing this as you likely do, what is it about ZA's purchased version gives you the confidence in the security of this info? What is it about ZA that makes you feel the info is not being used by someone other than yourself? They must have access to it, right? TIA for your help always.......... katy
