Hello all

Please forgive any ignorance on my part. i am learning as I go and BOTH Linksys and Cisco have been less than forthcoming help wise

I am running WIN2000 Pro with a Model Number BEFSR41 Router and CISCO's VPN client. I can access the internet through the router just fine. :) However...

I start Cico's VPN client and connect seemingly fine. I can even PING any IP address at my work place. I connect to a resource at my workplace OK. then when I try to access it I hang for about 90 seconds and then get something like "Resource inaccessable" or something to that affect. It's like there is something blocking me.

I have made the VPNClient machine a "DMZ"

I have enabled IPSEC and PPTP passthrough!

My firmware is 1.39!

I am really at a serious loss as to what to do here.

VPN worked straight through the DSL Modem before i bought this router...

any one have ANY ideas :(

Is the your router wide open? I don't know much about Linksys, but other routers come closed off. Is all this stuff at home or a remote location? You are using Cisco client so I assume you have some Cisco VPN hardware. VPN concentrator or a PIX at the office.

check to make sure the VPN client is doing NAT tranparency. You will need to configure this unless your WIN 2k Machine has a public IP address other wise the linksys router does NAT.

If you have a diagram or more details email me at

if you're using pix you need the router open to the UDP port for loopback verification - check with your sys admin for the port # - also if it's DEZ Ipsec the router may not be compatible - I'm waiting for updated specs from Linksys

I have this rather odd situation. I too just bought a Linksys BEFSR41 and am trying to connect to my company VPN using the Cisco VPN 5000 Client 5.1.7.

I have a ADSL provider (Pacific Internet, Singapore) and connect via PPPoE and everything works well. I can access the Internet web sites with no problems.

This is the weird thing. I can connect to the VPN gateway only when "NAT Transparency Mode" is turned OFF/DISABLED! Since I am behind a BEFSR41, NAT is in effect. In this state, I cannot resolve any hostnames, I cannot even connect with IP addresses to any company web-site/mail-servers. It seems the IP packet does not know how to get from my LAN (private IP) to the VPN.

When I attempt to connect with "NAT Transparency Mode" turned ON/ENABLED, I wait forever to connect to the VPN and the dialog box to enter my "Password" and "Authentication Secret".

Anyone with any smarts and can enlightening me what is going on?
