I have a Cisco 2950 48 Port Switch that I need to link to another Cisco 2950 48 Port Switch. Can I just plug in the GBIC cards, and the two switches are linked together?

This is true if you're using the default configuration.

If you want to carry traffics from more than 1 VLAN than you need to set ISL/802.1q switchport trunking.

If you want to use multiple linkages between the 2 switches than you need to set FastEtherChannel.

The 2950's should default to 801.Q trunking, and auto trunk on ports between the two switches.
If you are running between GBIC's, I doubt you would need to set FastEtherChannel.

The Cisco site has pretty good information on setting up VLANs on the 2950's, but don't hesitate to ask if you get stuck.
