Linking to pdfs?

Hi all,

I work for a company that creates numerous manuals for each software product. Within each Framemaker manual we make numerous references to the other manuals within the documentation library (for example, "see Installation Guide&quot. While I can create cross-references to external Framemaker files, I cannot seem to find a way to maintain these references once a pdf is created.

Manually inserting the cross-reference within the pdfs themselves would be too time consuming and difficult, given the size of our manuals. Is there a way to link to a pdf file while still in Framemaker, and will this link be maintained once a new pdf is generated?

If you can set up your FrameMaker folders to mirror the folders for your doc library, you can use Frame cross-references to link to other files.

When you PDF a book file, you then open the book files to other guides to which you are linking. For example, say you are working in Guide A, and you have a cross-reference that links to Guide B. When you create the PDF for Guide A, open the book file for Guide B.

for more information about cross-file links. The title indicates that the document is for Frame 5.5, but it should also apply to later versions as well.

I forgot to mention this. We don't use live links to other guides in our doc library. What we do instead is include bookmarks to other guides or to the library front page. I set these up using pdfmark code. Just wanted to bring this up as another way to links a bunch of guides in a doc library.

Thanks Rick. I've played around with it some, but am still finding many nuances that have to be dealt with. I'll have to see if they can be figured out before implementing them the way I want to.
