I want to access some Paradox 7 tables from MS Access 97. What would I have to do in order to accomplish that.
Please be as specific as u can.
I must specify that have installed Delphi 4 with BDE 5.01 but in my ODBC manager the only drivers for Paradox are the old versiona 3.x to 5.x ones.

Good morning!

OTTOMH, the first thing I would do is to go to the Microsoft site and download the latest MDAC, which will update your ODBC data source choices.

Check out this site:

Once that is installed, see if you can set up an ODBC datasource for Paradox.

If so, then it is just a matter of linking tables. If you need help, post again.

Thanks for your prompt answer.
But I still couldn't solve my problem. It's not about having problem with linking Paradox tables but Paradox tables verion 7.x
I have installed the MDAC 2.6 from microsoft site but it's still not work because the Paradox driver they provide is still just for Paradox 3.x 4.x 5.x, like my older version of MDAC, so I still can't access my Paradox 7.x tables.
Is there any other driver for that specific version of Paradox tables?
It is a bit frustrated because I also have installe on my workstation Delphi 4 & BDE 5.01 and they provide a driver for Access 97 database format, but as long as I used to work with VBA/VB I can't access Paradox 7.x tables within VB6 or Access 97.
Can you help me?

Regards

Just want to clarify: when you go to link the table in Access, are you using ODBC Databases() in the Files of Type box?

If you are, then when you go into Control Panel to set up your ODBC datasource, are you using the icon that says Data Sources (ODBC)? The reason I ask is that MS, for some reason, leaves the old icon there sometimes when you update the datasources, and it is easy to choose the wrong icon.

When I go into DataSources, I see a Paradox driver, and it doesn't specify a release number. The date of the driver is 10/25/00.

Let me know how your set up is different.

Kathryn

Regarding what you asked me
- It's the only one ODBC Data Sources (32 bit)
- It's also true the driver listed there hasn't any specification about version but if you try to create an DSN (Sytem, USer, File any) and choose the Microsoft Paradox Driver (*.db) and configure it you should notice that in the combo box beside version are only 3.x, 4.x, 5.x values.
- my driver date is 04/29/00

--------------------------------------------------------

Furthermore here it is an exerpt from MSDN:

"By default, the Microsoft Jet 4.0 database engine supports importing, exporting to, and linking to Paradox 3.x, 4.x, and 5.x and dBASE III, III+, IV, and 5 tables (if you link to these tables, the data in them will be read-only). Microsoft Jet 4.0 does not support Paradox 7 and 8 or dBASE 7 tables. For read/write access from Microsoft Jet to all versions of Paradox or dBASE tables, you must also have the Borland Database Engine (BDE) 4.x or later installed on your computer. If you don't have BDE 4.x or later installed, you can obtain it by installing dBASE 7, Paradox 7 and 8, or Delphi. If you own an older version of the BDE that doesn't support the Paradox 8 or dBASE 7 file formats, you can upgrade your engine from the Inprise (formerly named Borland) Web site at "

So:
- I have installed BDE 5.01,
- I can access Paradox 3.x, 4.x, 5.x from MS Access but still can't link to Paradox 7 tables
- I can access them within a Delphi 4 tool SQL Explorer but as long as I want to do that within an Access application I need to know how.
- I also have downloaded and installed MDAC 2.6 as you sugested me 1st time but still have access only to older version of Paradox (3.x, 4.x, 5.x) not to the 7 ones.
- As is stated in the MSDN excerpt above I should be able to do that but I guess something is wrong in what I did.
Can you still kelp me?

OK, I just tried to install the BDE, but it wouldn't let me cause I don't have Delphi or Paradox, so I'm flying blind here.

Again, just OTTOMH, when you go into Settings->Control Panel -> Datasources, is BDE or Borland listed anywhere?

Kathryn

Yes it is the BDE Administrator and when I open it, besides other Databese definitions (DSN correspondent), set up in only in BDE environment, I have listed all the DSN set up in ODBC Data Sources (32 bits).
Moreover all of them work, I mean I can open any DB related to a DSN within BDE environment.
It seems like it's not work the other way because in BDE environment I can open any of those Paradox 7 tables.
I really have no clue what to do.
Thanks again for your prompt answers.

I too am having this problem now.
Has anyone managed to solve it? (I really hope it hasn't gone unsolved since February!)
Any advise greatly received.
