Im our dbase we have memo (comments) secitons that are stored as text in a *.ftp file that is referenced by a *.dbf file. When I link the dbf for the report how do I tell crystal to use the fpt file and bring the comment text out into the report? Can you link a *.fpt file?
Thanks!

The comments should come by just referencing the memo field in the .dbf.

Crystal will not make the comments field available for use in formulas unless you are using CR 9, but you should be able to display them.

You might use a SQL Expression against it to parse it into smaller chunks, making it available to formulas, but this is connectivity dependent, try using ODBC.

We use dbf files and each table holds several memo fields, all of these can be referenced by just placing the relevant field into the crystal report. We do this to hold free text descriptions about various Course information. Although you do sometimes have to be careful about the size of the memo field but it works fine and you dont do anything special, just drop the field into the crystal report design page
