linking text with figures

In Word, if I enter a new Figure, say a Figure between #3 and #4, it is now the "new" #4.
How do I enter text in the body of the doc so that it will automatically update the change (so that the test now says "See Figure 4", or then would say "See Figure 5" if I enter another figure at the beginning of the doc.)

Use a cross reference field.

TFrom the Menu, select Insert > Reference > Cross reference and make your choices.
