Linking a VB program to Microsoft Project

I am writing a program which I am informed would be greatly improved if it were written to work in conjunction with Microsoft Project 2000 by using it for project management. Unfortunately I haven't the first idea how to go about linking my program with Project and wondered if there was perhaps anyone who has done this before who could get me started, or tell me where I can find some information to get me started.
