Link to Download? 1

Hi there,

I know this is going to sound really dumb, I'm sure of it. I can't figure out how to link a zip file for users to download. I just want a little link for them to click, and poof! There goes the file, wizzing off to thier computer.

Help would be appreciated, sorry for the dumb question.

http://www.yourserver.com/file.zip

or wherever your file is stored and when clicking the user will see a box asking if they want to save the file to disc or open immediately.

Ok, that doesn't seem to be working.....
It tells me that the page can't be found! I don't get it.

have you uploaded the .zip file to the location specified in the link so if you were linking to

http://www.yourserver.com/test.zip,

a file called test.zip needs to be in the

http://www.yourserver.com

directory.

If it isnt then there is nothing to link to and you will get an error! Caspar Kennerdale

Yep! It's there! The link is right, the format for the link is right.... I dont get it!

Actually, if you link a word document, when clicked the link will open de actual document inside the browser...

Thats because IE sychns with word and the Microsoft formats.

PDF files do the same thing because Adobe have licensd the plug in-

Word files wont open like that in Netscape I dont think

The point is you just need to link t the file, so as long as the file is n the excat location linked to, and the file type isnt recognised by the broswer it will try to donwload.

If it doesnt there is something wrong such as a spelling error or case sensitive error Caspar Kennerdale
