We have a project that involves a huge map with 300 businesses marked on it with numbers. Beside the map is the numbered list with the business names. The numbers have to be in order and the business are listed alphabetically by town so when a new business is added to say #37 all the numbers following it have to move on the map.

We're trying to come up with a way to have all the businesses and map numbers on an Excel sheet so it can be easily updated but we need a way to link the excel sheet to the individual numbers on the indesign map. We can't link to a specific cell though because if another row is added then the location on the map will be wrong. Is there a way to do this? Is there a way to attach a hidden ID to an Excel row and link to indesign that way?

Any help with is much appreciated.

This is a massive thing to setup.

I will try and look at a way to do this and hopefully post a video on the method if I find a way.

In the mean time could you perhaps use a service like yousendit to send some sample files that I could work with, and perhaps an indication in the file of what is needed.

If you follow the link below you can see my contact details.
