I tried to link to 2 files in Crytal SQL Designer.

I get the message: ERROR CREATING LINK

I tried linking the files in Crystal Report Writer and I got the message: FILE LINK WARNING: THE SPECIFIED FILE MAY NOT LINK SUCCESSFULLY DUE TO A DIFFERENT TYPE .

They are both employee files. The employee ID number field name in File1 is a dif name than the employee ID number in File2. However they r both strings, 9 characters long. (checked via browser). Both files are found on differnet sources under the OBDC path in DATA EXPLOERER. (assumes this means they r both OBDC data types).

I looked at the properties of each file and came up with the following:
FILE 1:
Table Name=DBA.employee
Datasource Type=SQL
Table Type=Tables
Alias Name=employee
Database DLL Name=pdsodbc.dll
Server Type=ODBC - Equip Maint
Server=Equip Maint
Datasource Type=SQL
Database=equip

FILE 2:
Table Name=prempl01
Datasource Type=SQL
Table Type=Tables
Alias Name=prempl01
Database DLL Name=pdsodbc.dll
Server Type=ODBC - SBT PR
Server=SBT PR
Datasource Type=SQL
Database=w:\pro50\prdata

Why won't they link? Thanx for assistance!

Hugh
