Lines Hanging on the end of the page

Hello All,

I am trying to display data in a moc Excel type grid.
I draw lines horizontally across the top of the detail section, vertically within the detail section to make up individual cells, and a horizontal line at the top of the group footer section. Even when I select "Keep Together" in the detail section, the vertical lines in the detail section bleed off the end of the page before moving to the next page.

Is there a "best practice" way of drawing excel type gridlines to display data in a cell format that is neat and tidy.

Thanks,
Tom

I'm not clear what your problem is. If it's a question of data going beyond the right margin, then I'd suggest reducing your view to 75% or 50% and checking if fields are extending out into the non-printing area.

If it's a question of data broken between pages, that is tricky in Crystal 8.5, and other versions of Crystal as well, but the rules change. You do have 'new page before' and 'new page after' options that can be useful, though with some waste of paper. Crystal 8.5 has nothing comparable to the 'widow-orphan' and 'keep with next' options for Microsoft Word.

Madawc,

Thank you for responding.
The problem is not with the data, the problem is that the vertical lines I've drawn in the detail section hang down.
It's not easy to explain without a picture and I don't see the ability to display graphics here in this post system.

Let me see if I can make a moc-up below:

_________________________________________________________
| Name |Field1 |Field 2 |
----------------------------------------------------------
| Name |Data | More Data, etc..... |
----------------------------------------------------------
| | | |

***New Page*****

| | | |
----------------------------------------------------------
| Name |Data | More Data, etc..... |
----------------------------------------------------------

Notice that at the end of the first page the vertical lines linger at the bottom of the page, and on the second page the vertical lines linger at the top of the page, I want the last visible thing on the page to be the bottom line
of the grid and the first thing on page two to be the top line of the grid, not the lingering vertical lines.

I am trying to make a moc-excel type grid on the screen and in print. In excel you can show gridlines on print and it does a nice job of making things look clean and tidy.

I hope this explains it.

Thank you for your time. I appreciate your response.

In the Preview section, look to the left-hand margin, which will show you what section it is that is showing lines where you do not want them. It must be to do with the way you've drawn the lines.

You can export from Crystal to Excel, and this might be easier than getting a Crystal report to do things that Excel is designed to do. Export in Crystal 8.5 is accessed by an icon that looks like a white envelope with a red arrow going into it. If export gives difficulties you'd need the latest dlls, but since downloads are done by the Technical section of IT where I work, I can't advise much on that.
