limit to number of addresses in bulk email from Word via Outlook?

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of email addresses that can be used as a source for bulk mailmerge in Word via Outlook? I've heard that there is a limit of 200-300 but I've found no documentation to confirm this.

Has anyone done a really large bulk emailing this way? How many addresses did you send to?

I have used Excel for over 1000 records at once. I feel that excel is a better source for your data than outlook. You can do a merge with excel to word. You can also export your address book from outlook as a comma delimited file and set it up in excel to start with.
