I am working with an Oracle database in client server mode. There is a parameter in Oracle Net8 (SDU) that allows me to specify the size of the block that Net8 will send over the network. Even thought I am specifying a value larger than 2048, I can see that TCP limit me to 2048. Oracle tells me it is probably because of the way we are set up in our shop. Where should I look for?

Sounds like the window size. Leave is at 2048 assuming your network is a good one. This is the size of a single frame. If you set it at 32k (if you could) and that frame gets corrupt or mislaid then it needs retransmitting, hence everything slows down.

Read up on sliding windows in TCPIP.
