Licensing Question

Hi. I have a web server which will have Windows Server 2003, Standard Edition as its operating system.
It's only going to serve as a web server with one client machine that will be networked internally for development purposes.

What kind of license do I have to purchase? Do I need CAL's for all online users that access our web server?
One thing I forgot to mention is that some of the internet users will create a user account in the web server's active directory. Do I need CAL's for them?

What's the most cost-effective license I can get?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You do not require any licences for the web users.
If you already have a domain then you could go for Windows Web edition as it's quite a bit cheaper.

Thanks for your straight-forward, not bitter reply, bofh..

I think I heard somewhere that Windows Web Edition does not support SQL server 2000, or maybe I heard it wrong.
Are there any limitations on the Web Edition that I should be aware of?

You cannot install any Server series apps on Web Server edition - like Exchange, SQL, etc.

It can join a domain though, so if you have an existing domain with a SQL server, it can access that through normal network protocols.

Yep it's limited to just been a web application server i'm afraid.
