Hi -

I oversee a network that spans T1s between two physical locations. The primary location has a W2k3 server running Terminal Services and Citrix MetaFrame Pres. Svr. 3.0. This machine is a member server in a domain with a W2k Domain Controller (in the same location).

The satellite location has a W2k3 server that replicates across the T1 to reduce authentication traffic. My users in the satellite office authenticate to their local DC and have roaming profiles but their Term Svcs profiles are on the main DC in the primary office location.

Anyway, all was running pretty smoothly until recently. Now users in the satellite location are sometimes being denied access to our published app. When they try to logon using the ICA client they get a "Citrix Client Logon Message" - - "The system has reached the licensed logon limit. Please try again later". We have 10 licenses for Term Svcs and 10 for Citrix. There are only nine workstations in the satellite office (although there are about 13 individual users...some of whom share PCs). However, this problem occurs even when there are only six or seven users logged on. I tried changing the licensing from "Per Server" to "Per Seat" but to no avail.

Interestingly, my W2k DC in the main office is also logging Application Events (ID:201) about SMB Server 5.0 having exceeded the number of licenses. I don't know if this is related or coincidental.

Does anyone know what I should try next?

Thank you.

Chris

Sometimes, I have a user who is logged in more than once, thus hogging up an extra seat. Make sure that they are logging off correctly, not just disconnecting from a session.

I have seen this licenses limit in a mixed server environment ie 2000,2003. Microsoft has an article on there site to delete the licenses file on the w2k dc and reseting the CALs for network access. The TS licenses should be install in the citrix box. is the dc @ the remote office 2000 or 2003? from the looks of it, the remote office is 2003 dc. You will run into this problem because of the license services between 2000 and 2003 DC's is different. After running the procedure to reset the CAL Licenses on the DC you can turn off this service. Sorry no time to look up the article @ MS.

Thanks very much. Sorry I didn't get back here sooner to look at these posts. It's turned into an extremely hactic week. This information was useful though and I appreciate your fast replies.

Thank you again.

Chris
