Hi all,

I'm installing Win 2000 advanced server ...
Installer show me this dialog:

Select the licesing mode you want to use:
1- Per Server. Number of cocurrent connections: 5
2- Per seat

What is thease items ?
Which i must choose ?

Thanks for replies ...

This is Microsoft licensing. In general, if you have only one server in your environment and many clients, it is better (cheaper) to choose PER SERVER.

However, if you have multiple servers in your environment, it is usually cheaper to choose PER SEAT. This is because your clients will be (in most cases) attaching to multiple servers through out the day. You would overlap licenses if you were to pick PER SERVER and the cost would also grow.

In your case, it doesn't really matter. You probably bought Windows 2000 server with 5 licenses. And you probably bought your Windows 2000 professional software too...(one license). I would pick per server in your case.

"Per server" means that's how many concurrent client connections you can have to that particular server.
"Per seat" means each client has a license to connect to the server.
If you have multiple servers it's best to get "per seat" license because each client can access multiple servers.

Ex. 10 - clients
2 - servers

For all ten clients to access both servers you need 10 "per seat" licenses but you would need 20 "per server" licenses.

Just a note you can switch from "per server" to "per seat" but you can't go from "per seat" to "per server", so if your not really sure it's best to start with "per server" and then switch later if you need to.

Thanks alot for answer ... ;)
