Library menu problems

Hi Dreamweaver Gurus,
I have been asked to add rollOvers to a menu that is a library item.
My problem started when I logged on and downloaded the html files that someone else created in Dreamweaver. (html files, library files and images)

When I opened the site the menu images do not appear.

I can't figure out why since it loads up just fine. Also the library item does not appear in the assets tab.
Am I missing something here.

I found that in the library file I could remove the / from "/images/image1.jpg" then the image would appear in the design view, but I don't want to change anything there since it loads correctly in the browser.

Any help on this to help me understand what is going on would be greatly appreciated.

correction,
I can see the menu in the assets area in the sidebar, but the images are gray and have broken links.

Inside the .lib file if I change the source from "images/image1.jpg" to "../images/image1.jpg"
I can view the images.
